On Saturday morning, March 13th WSNA will host dumpsters for your Spring cleaning pleasure. Remember, they fill up fast so make sure to have your cleanup done prior to Saturday and ready to go. Dumpsters will arrive sometime around 8AM but could come as early as 7:00. The locations this year will be: As always, bring ID because they're for Washington Square residents only. Also Waste Management will pick up your large items like sofas, refrigerators and tv's twice per year at no charge. You can't put televisions or electronic gear in your trash but they'll pick it up at the curb on Monday if you call 714 558-7761 during business hours by Friday. Do the same with your waste motor oil and oil filters. The WM transfer locations accept:
There's no charge for televisions, most other material is charged $48/ton with a $40.39 minimum. Construction debris is charged $58/ton. Neither location can accept:
And they have a partnership with SCE to pick up your old refrigerator and give you $50. Details here Here's another hazardous waste program we just discovered. Curbside Inc will come to your home by appointment and pick up a wide variety of electronics and waste. Here's the list. Their arrangement with the City is that they'll come out up to three times per year per resident. Please make it worth their while, talk to your neighbors and get your waste together before calling. They'll take car batteries and old cell phones and mercury switches and microwaves, things that don't belong in landfills. They recycle precious metals from electronics too. Got an old 386 PC in your garage? They'll get something out of it. You can call 800-449-7587, email hotline@curbsideinc.com or fill out the form on their website. Their appointments are typically two weeks from when you contact them, so plan ahead.

You've probably heard that cities can use "reverse 911" to notify residents in an emergency with mass phone notifications. Orange County has the system but you can help it work better by registering your home, work and cell numbers on the system. Since there are many instances when the public may not be at home to receive an emergency message, public safety officials feel it is critical that all residents and businesses provide additional contact channels by registering voluntary cell phone numbers, e-mail addresses and text numbers through the AlertOC self-subscription web portal. Click the banner, click on Santa Ana and you can register (in seven different languages) and enter your information. The privacy policy says that your information is private and safeguarded.
