The government just posted census data online for the first time. It's at http://1940census.archives.gov Our neighborhood South of Washington is in ED 30-103 and North of Washington ED 30-101. It's listed by address although you can only look at or download jpeg images of scanned microfilm. Not only can you find the owner and all the family members who lived there but their occupations, ages, income and the value of the home. That is if you can interpret the bad penmanship of the census taker that covered Washington Square. Note that many of our streets didn't exist yet in 1940. You can view a much larger map here. The Progressive Dinner was a warm and fuzzy event for all who attended. Here’s the recipe if you want to do it again:
Join us on Facebook! There's now a WSNA group on Facebook to share photos and discussions with your neighbors. Just search for Washington Square Neighborhood Association and join in on the fun. It's open to everyone, WSNA resident or not as long as the spam stays at a low level. Take a break from your cafe or farm and say hello. We're on Twitter too but aren't saying much yet. The Washington Square neighborhood is located in the northern part of the beautiful city of Santa Ana, California. This site is here to provide you with information about our upcoming events, our residents, history and the beautiful homes and gardens that make up our neighborhood. The Washington Square Neighborhood Association, a 501c3 non-profit organization is our voice. Sponsorship
opportunities are available for this website. Contact the Washington
Square Neighborhood Association for more information. |
