from L to R Lilly, Michelle, Ronan, Sophie, Max and Russ Bartlett

The Alan Anderson Award is presented by the Washington Square Neighborhood Association twice a year to recognize residents that take great pride in their homes. The award is given to exempliy the landscaping values that Alan recognized and loved in Washington Square. It's fitting that the Bartletts are the current reciepients of the award as their home is directly across the street from where Alan lived and he would have enjoyed the view (and probably supervised every step of the construction).

Russ and Michelle moved into the house in April of 2006, coming all the way from their previous home at Washington and Freeman. The transformation began a year later after an exhaustive search for a landscape designer. They eventually hired The Garden Design Group in Huntington Beach, an award winning firm that's been featured on HGTV. The process was a collaboration, melding the designers vision with the Bartlett's taste and budget. Besides the new lawn, trees and shrubs, they put in a sprinkler system, drainage from the backyard to the front and electrical and gas. In this "before" photo taken on 8-19-2003 you can really see what landscaping and a little paint can accomplish. The backyard is the real treasure combining play areas for the children with adult spaces for entertaining. The patio cover was designed and built by WSNA's own Tom Lutz. The WSNA board congratulates the Bartletts on their landscaping and wonderful patio makeover.
