| Heroes Elementary School The school hosted the WSNA Summer General Meeting on July 10th. The turnout was good and neighbors had a chance to see what's been happening at the southern end of our neighborhood for the last couple of years. Of interest is that Heroes is Santa Ana's first "green" school, constructed to be energy efficient and use recycled building materials such as floor tiles. It's a traditional school year K-5 school that will draw from the existing Wilson, Hoover, Carver & Romero-Cruz schools.
As you can see from the boundary map, only students below 10th street will attend Heros. The reduced student load at Wilson School will allow SAUSD to remove several of the portable classrooms and expand the playground. The handout from the WSNA meeting with projected enrollment and more can be downloaded here. When the school opens on August 28th the Santa Ana School Police will have a major presence in the neighborhood until the traffic flow works itself out. The only drop-off / pickup area for Heroes is on Civic Center and there should be no traffic through Washington Square. The Santa Ana School Police 714 558-5535 are responsible for security on-site.
